First Female Gov’ship Candidate Emerges In Adamawa

First female governorship candidate, Senator Ashatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged in Adamawa State, dusting five male contestants, including anti-corruption czar, Nuhu Ribadu.

The serving senator representing Adamawa Central defeated Ribadu, who scored 288, former Governor Bindow, who scored 103 and a serving House of Representatives member, who polled Namdas with 94 votes.

Two others, Wafari Therman and Umar Mustphar, scored 21 and 39 respectively to lose the contest.

Announcing the the result of the primaries that lasted to the early hours of Friday, the chairman of primaries committee, Alhaji Gambo Lawal, said a total number of 1,130 delegates were accreditted and a total of 1, 011 votes were cast, while 36 votes were voided.

“Of the total number of valid votes cast, Senator Ashatu Dahiru Binani polled 430 and having scored the highest number of votes cast, she is hereby returned as the winner of the primary election,” Lawal disclosed.
