Stonix News had reported that Sheikh Asiami was said to be traveling to Kano from Gashua, Yobe State last Friday August 19 when his car was flagged down by the soldier from Nguru Army Barracks for a lift.
While on their way, the soldier allegedly suddenly brought out his gun, pulled the trigger and shot his helper at close range.
The compassionate Islamic scholar, it was further gathered, died on the spot while the ungrateful soldier bolted away with the deceased’s Honda Accord car.
Lance Corporal Gabreil, in his confessional statement made available to Stonix News, said though he was owing his wife N250,000, he only wanted to collect the Islamic cleric’s car, before later decided to hack him to death.
“I am owing my wife 250,000 naira but that’s not why I keeled Sheikh Goni Asiami.
“I only wanted to collect his car so when he gave me a lift, I told him I was hearing a sound under his car. He checked but he didn’t see anything.
“It was a ploy to make him come down from his vehicle. As he was checking, I removed my rifle and fixed my magazine.
“I pointed my rifle at him,.He asked me what have I done. I said you didn’t do anything.
“He asked again, do you want to keel me, I said I don’t want to keel you.
“I fired a warning shot thinking he will run away but he didn’t run away. When he wanted to run into the vehicle, I fired the second shot.
“When he ran to the side of the driver, I fired on the body of the car and one of the bullets penetrated the vehicle and keeled him.
“I dragged his bo!dy off the main road into the bush. I have never done this before.”
Recall that authorities of the Nigerian Army had, during the week, promised to investigate the incident after the police had arrested two soldiers in connection with the incident.
