A 34-year-old man has reportedly drowned in the Elegushi Beach during a church beach hangout in Lagos State, Nigeria.
The middle aged man identified as John was at the beach for a picnic organized by an Ikorodu-based church for its youths on Saturday.
According to reports, John was noticed to have gone missing when other members of the church were preparing to leave for their respective homes after the day’s groove.
Lifeguards and divers were immediately alerted when someone mentioned to have seen him gone into the water but efforts to locate him in the water that Saturday proved abortive.
However, his body was recovered by lifeguards at the beach on Tuesday afternoon
After the picnic, as members prepared to leave the beach, they noticed that John was missing.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to The Punch.
The Superintendent of Police added, “The family of the victim has been contacted and the body of the victim has also been deposited at the Yaba General Hospital for an autopsy.”
