IMPEACHMENT: Edo Deputy Governor Going…Going….

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

THE feud between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his estranged deputy, Philip Shuaibu is nearing its climax as the latter has been served an impeachment notice by the state’s House of Assembly.

In other words, the Edo House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Shaibu.

At resumption of plenary on Wednesday, Majority Leader of the House, Charity Aiguobarueghian, announced the impeachment notice to the house.

He revealed that the petition, dated March 5, was signed by 21 out of the 24 members of the house against the deputy governor – a number way above the two- third requirement  stipulated in the constitution.

The speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, acknowledged receipt of the petition, and directed the Clerk, Yahaya Omogbai, to serve the impeachment notice on the deputy governor with a seven-day ultimatum to respond to the notice of impeachment.

Addressing the press after plenary, Majority Leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian, announced that the petition was based on two grounds of perjury and revealing of government secrets.
