DESPITE being owed eight months salaries by the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is seeking the services of teaching staff of the University of Ibadan in the coming general elections.
This was disclosed on Monday by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale at the Senate Chambers of the University of Ibadan while giving a report to the Senate members on his trip to Abuja.
He said that INEC has demanded 904 academic staff from the university to take part in the forthcoming February 25 presidential election.
Prof Adebowale further explained that UI is being held in high esteem due to its time-honored integrity and the experience its academics had shown in past elections.
He advised the university community to kindly participate in the exercise amid the Federal Government’s refusal in redeeming the eight-month salaries, urging them to see their participation as a duty to nation-building.
