Japa: Teenager Missing After Abuja-Based Facebook Friend Cajoled Her With Germany Prospects

Ola ‘Kiya Reporting

A 16-year-old girl of Igbo extraction, Chidinma Anita Chukwudum, is missing after being cajoled by a Facebook friend with a ticket to Germany for greener pasture.

Stonix News reports that ‘japa’ (recent Nigerian local parlance for emigration) has become the rave of the moment orchestrated by maladministration resulting in economic woes and insecurity in the country.

Anita, whose family has declared her missing, resides in FESTAC Town, Lagos State, and was last seen on September 18.

Distraught mother of the teenager, Mrs. Uche Chukwudum, confirmed the incident to journalists.

She said Anita had just obtained her secondary school leaving certificate, wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and passed.

Anita, she added, already had prospect of gaining admission to the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos, before her sudden disappearance.

Mrs Chukwudum said, rather than confiding in her, Anita secretly mopped up her belongings from their family house on Sunday and fled to Abuja.

Anita had already disappeared before her mother discovered that she had been chatting with an unknown person on Facebook who had promised to take her to Germany for a better life.

The Facebook friend had promised to arrange her travel documents for her in Abuja to leave for Germany.

Mrs Chidinma further stated that while leaving the house, Anita left a note saying enthusiastically that she had moved on, buy would work towards making her family proud!

She said thanks to Anita’s sister who was able to hack her Facebook account, gaining access to all her chats with the person resident in Abuja.

However, the matter has been reported to the Lagos State Police Command, which already had swung into action.

According to Mrs Chukwudum,
security agents have been able to track the area where Anita is, but have been unable to locate the actual house where she is being kept.

She pleaded with anyone armed with useful information on her daughter’s whereabouts to call 08033072719 or contact the nearest police station.
