By THE Ondo State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation following the shocking assassination of Mr Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State.
Adeniran’s lifeless body was discovered in his residence in Ondo town on the morning of Thursday, 17 July 2025, plunging the university community and wider public into grief and disbelief.
While initial reports remained vague about the precise cause of death, police authorities have now confirmed foul play.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, revealed that the case is being treated as an assassination.
“The man died in the early hours of Thursday. I can confirm to you that it is a case of assassination reported at Fanibi Division,” Ayanlade stated.
The police spokesperson further disclosed chilling, albeit unverified, details suggesting that two unidentified assailants may have forced a toxic substance into the victim’s mouth.
“We are doing everything possible to unravel the lies and get to the root of the matter,” he added.
Although the precise circumstances and location of the attack remain unclear, investigators are intensifying efforts to identify those responsible.
The police have called on the public to come forward with any useful information that could assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, UNIMED has officially confirmed the death in a sombre statement issued by its Head of Media and Protocol, Mr Isaac Oluyi.
“The devastating news of the Registrar’s death has thrown the university into mourning, as it was shocking. He was still at his duty post on Monday, 14 July 2025,” the statement read.
Adeniran, who only assumed office as the university’s third substantive Registrar on 6 January 2025, was praised for his dedication and professionalism.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his immediate family and the entire University community in this trying moment. May God repose his soul,” the university added.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the academic and local communities, prompting renewed concerns about safety and the rise in violent crime in the region.
As investigations intensify, the public watches closely, hoping for justice in the wake of a senseless tragedy.
