THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced that its operatives have uncovered a fake dollar cartel in Lagos.
This was made known to the public on Saturday 21st, via an official statement from the agency’s Media Director, Femi Babafemi.
The NDLEA operatives, alongside operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), upon an intelligence received from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the United States, stormed Oniru Shoprite area of Lekki, Lagos, where the suspects were apprehended.
According to investigations, the Lagos cartel had been involved in the trafficking of fake American currency, with its base in the commercial city.
Femi Babafemi confirmed that:
“A total of two hundred and sixty-nine thousand ($269,000) counterfeit US dollars were recovered from the syndicate at Oniru Shoprite area of Lekki, Lagos, where three suspects were arrested”
Chairman of the agency, Buba Marwa, has directed that the suspects and fake currencies be transferred to the EFCC for prosecution
