OMADINO community in Warri South Local Government Area erupted in jubilation on Monday as Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, inaugurated the Model Technical College, Omadino, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to technical and vocational education as a strategic solution to youth unemployment.
Governor Oborevwori described technical education as a powerful pathway for transforming young people into skilled professionals, entrepreneurs and employers of labour, rather than job seekers. He said the newly inaugurated institution stands as one of his administration’s flagship investments in skills development and human capital growth.
Speaking at the event, the governor noted that some achievements speak louder when seen, stressing that within two years, his administration had delivered critical projects across the state without borrowing or placing extra financial burdens on Deltans.
“Even I am sometimes amazed at how much we have achieved within two years without borrowing and without burdening our people. This college is a clear demonstration of prudent management. Contractors were paid promptly, which is why the project was delivered on schedule,” he said.
Oborevwori revealed that academic activities had already commenced at the college prior to its formal commissioning, describing this as evidence of the institution’s readiness, functionality and operational capacity. According to him, the college marks another significant milestone in the expansion of technical and vocational education in Delta State.
He explained that the institution reflects clear vision, sound planning and disciplined execution, pointing to its internal road network, administrative blocks, classrooms, workshops and laboratories as proof of his government’s resolve to deliver quality educational infrastructure.
The governor commended his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for initiating the project, adding that his administration ensured its completion in line with required standards.
“Today, we see a solid and beautiful edifice standing proudly. We return all the glory to God. Any student, lecturer or staff member would be proud to be associated with this institution,” he said.
Oborevwori also praised the quality of instruction at the college, noting that the confidence and eloquence displayed by a student who addressed the gathering reflected effective teaching and learning.
He emphasised that modern learning facilities play a vital role in creating a conducive academic environment, improving student outcomes, enhancing teacher effectiveness and instilling pride within the school community.
“With the world-class facilities provided here, students of this college can compete favourably with their peers anywhere in the world. All workshops and laboratories are fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities,” the governor stated.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to education under the MORE Agenda, Oborevwori assured residents that the state government would continue to upgrade educational infrastructure to ensure access to functional education and globally relevant skills. He, however, urged school authorities, students and host communities to maintain the facilities, stressing that public assets must be protected from vandalism and neglect.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr Smart Ufoh, described the Omadino Model Technical College as more than a modern school, calling it a symbol of transformation and a bold declaration of purpose.
He disclosed that the institution has 12 classrooms and nine fully equipped workshops designed to enhance learning and practical skills acquisition. Residential and welfare facilities include two hostel blocks, staff quarters, a principal’s lodge and a corps members’ lodge, ensuring comfort and stability for students and staff.
Other facilities include a dining hall, clinic and a large school hall, as well as recreational amenities such as a football pitch and basketball court. Supporting infrastructure like a generator house and operational quarters further reinforces the institution’s readiness for effective teaching and administration.
Ufoh added that academic activities began in September 2025 with the admission of Junior Technical One students, explaining that this decision was taken to prevent the facilities from remaining idle. He noted that the response from Omadino and neighbouring communities had been overwhelming.
In his remarks, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, applauded Governor Oborevwori for his impactful leadership and extensive development projects in Warri and across Delta State.
He described the commissioning of the technical college as a landmark achievement, alongside major infrastructure such as the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges, extensive road networks, drainage systems that have addressed perennial flooding, and the near-completed Warri Modern Stadium.
Agbateyiniro praised the governor’s inclusive and people-oriented governance style, noting that in less than three years, development projects had reached every senatorial district, federal constituency, local government and community in the state. He affirmed that the people of Warri South remained firmly behind the governor ahead of 2027.
Also speaking, the Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, thanked the governor for his sustained commitment to riverine development and urged him to expand investments in schools, bridges, roads and jetties across riverine communities.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Miss Courtney Omotoyine described the commissioning of the college as the fulfilment of a long-awaited dream and a decisive step towards securing the future of young people in Delta State and Nigeria. She urged students to make responsible use of the facilities and strive for excellence.
