ONE person was reportedly killed in an avalanche at the Palisades Tahoe resort on the California side of Lake Tahoe.
The victim of the avalanche has been identified as 66-year-old Kenneth Kidd, who, according to authorities, was a resident of both Point Reyes and the Truckee area.
According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, the incident marks the first U.S. avalanche fatality of the 2023-2024 winter season.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. David Smith confirmed that no one has been reported missing and search efforts have concluded.

Stonix News learnt that the man who died was buried in the avalanche, while another person suffered a leg injury; both were guests visiting the resort from outside the area.
Two others who got caught in the slide had minor injuries.
The avalanche was reported around 9:30 a.m local time on Wednesday. The slide, according to Palisades Tahoe Resort, occured near the KT-22 lift, which opened for the first time about 30 minutes earlier.
No other details on the deceased were released at the time of filing this report.
