A number of overzealous officers of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) popularly known as VIO, have sustained varying degrees of injuries in an auto-crash, while chasing road offenders.
Stonix News gathered that the accident occurred at Lugbe Bridge, along Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road in Abuja, at about 3:10p.m on Monday, September 19, 2022.
In an attempt to arrest an offender, whose documents were alleged to have expired, the officers allegedly drove against the traffic on the bridge in pursuit of the offender on a “ONE Way” route.
The hot chase led to a ghastly head-on collision with an oncoming Toyota Corolla vehicle with Reg. No. ABJ 717 CE.
The immediate rescue mission of other road users and sympathisers, who stormed the scene, saved the victims from death by rushing them to the hospital.
Driver of the Toyota vehicle, simply identified as Abraham, who also narrowly escaped death in the accident, narrated his experience to journalists:
“I was ascending the bridge when I suddenly saw the VIO vehicle coming from opposite direction at high speed.”
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement from the directorate as regards the incident has been made.
