IN a historic ceremony held at Eyanvien Hall in Otorere, the ancient Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area today witnessed the coronation of HRM Albert Akpomudje, SAN, as Alaka-Eyanvwien I, the 14th Ohworode of the kingdom.

Akpomudje was crowned at 9:34 a.m. by Olorogun Philip Korobor Atuduhor, the Okpako r’ Illorogun (Oldest Chief) of Olomu Kingdom, and, subsequently, consecrated by the Archbishop of Bendel Province, Dr Cyril Odotemu, after which 21 cannon shots were fired.

The signification of the title Alaka-Eyanvwien I is primordially rooted in the fact that Eyanvwien was the first son of Alaka, a co-founder of the Olomu Kingdom.

Immediately after the coronation, the monarch was escorted in a long motorcade to Eyanvien Hall at Oviri Olomu, headquarters of the Eyanvien Ruling House, where he was received with 14 cannon shots, signifying his position as the 14th Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom.

The motorcade thereafter proceeded to his palatial residence at Akperhe Olomu for a grand reception.

The ceremony followed the rotational succession arrangement among Olomu’s three ruling houses and marks a new chapter in the kingdom’s leadership.

Following the passing of his predecessor, Akpomudje was formally installed amid traditional rites, drumming and vibrant community celebrations.

In his address, the new monarch pledged to uphold peace, tradition and development for the people of Olomu, while promising to work harmoniously with the traditional council and younger generations.

The installation, attended by government officials, community leaders and dignitaries, highlights the enduring strength of the kingdom’s cultural heritage and its role in promoting regional unity.

The event was graced by eminent personalities including Archbishop Cyril Odotemu, Mr Sam Amuka, Publisher of Vanguard, HRM King Monday Whiskey, High Chief Johnbull Ejovi, and Arc Charles Majorho.

Also present were Chief Thompson Okpoko, SAN; Mr Charles Ajuyah, SAN, former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; and former Delta State Chief Judge, Justice Smith.

Members of the Federal Government College Old Boys Association and the Edo College Old Boys Association were also in attendance, alongside the Unu-Okpe of Okpe Kingdom, Chief Michael Affe; Barr. Obriks Uloho; and Chief and Chief (Mrs) McDonald Ugbewanko.

The Uduruvwie of Uvwie Kingdom, Chief (Mrs) Awinoron; Chief Simon Asite, National Financial Secretary of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU Worldwide); Justice and Mrs Shakaro (rtd); Barr. Akpomudiare Oruma; and Clement Djebah also graced the occasion.

Other notable attendees included Chief (Dr) Charles Edosomwan, SAN, the Obasuyi of Benin Kingdom; John Obwah; members of the Anglican Church; the Anglican Adams Preaching Society (AAPS); and a cross-section of distinguished guests.
