THE Nigeria Police Force has reactivated the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits (TGP) nationwide through a secure digital platform, in a renewed effort to enhance national security and public trust.
The development follows directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D.
Accessible via possap.gov.ng, the new platform offers a transparent and accountable process for motorists to regularise the use of factory-fitted tinted glass.
This comes in response to widespread public complaints of police harassment over tinted windows, as well as the increasing manufacture of vehicles with such features.
The use of tinted vehicles has been linked to criminal activities including kidnapping, armed robbery, and so-called “one-chance” scams.
These vehicles hinder police visibility and disrupt effective law enforcement, posing significant threats to public safety.
The Inspector-General explained that the reactivation of the permit system aims to distinguish legitimate users — including those with medical needs and members of the security community — from individuals seeking to exploit tinted windows for unlawful purposes.
The initiative is expected to bolster police investigations and support broader national security objectives
Applicants are now required to submit their details online, including their National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN), with biometric capture and background checks also part of the process.
Successful applicants will receive QR-coded digital permits within 72 hours.
To ensure a smooth rollout, a 30-day grace period will begin on 1 May 2025, allowing motorists to obtain the necessary permits before enforcement begins.
Officers found extorting or harassing members of the public during enforcement will face strict disciplinary action.
Reaffirming the Force’s commitment to technology-driven, citizen-focused policing, the IGP called on Nigerians to support the initiative for safer roads and a more secure nation.
