Ribadu Urges Nigerians To Stop Paying Ransoms To Kidnappers

By Micheal Chukwuebuka

NATIONAL Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu welcomed over 60 individuals who were recently freed from captivity in Zangon Kataf, Southern Kaduna on Tuesday, following ongoing military efforts.

Among those rescued—who had been held hostage for more than a month—were a Deputy Director in the civil service and a relative of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah.

The group, which included 35 men and 29 women and children, was officially handed over to the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, in a brief ceremony held in Abuja.

During the event, Ribadu strongly cautioned Nigerians against paying ransoms to kidnappers, stressing that such actions only sustain and encourage criminal activity.

“I urge families and communities to stop giving money to these criminals,” Ribadu stated. “We have never used money to free any victims. Every ransom paid only emboldens them. The more you give, the more they ask for.”
