Senior Student Slits Throat Of Junior Student With Razor Blade

BORNU: The spate of cruelty is becoming worrisome amid existential hardship in Nigeria as a senior secondary student on Thursday night slit the throat of a junior student both of Elkanemi College of Islamic Theology in Maiduguri, the Bornu State capital.

While Stonix News gathered that the name of the aggressor is being allegedly concealed by the school management for no known reason, the identity of the victim was revealed as 11-year-old Jubril Sadi Mato (Ramadan).

The 17-year-old senior student was said to have almost successfully yanked off the neck of the boy at a quiet place with a razor blade before he was interrupted and fled.

The victim, Jubril Sadi Mato (Ramadan), is said to be currently hospitalised at the Intensive Care Unit of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

A source said the senior colleague, from SS2 class, had sent Ramadan on an errand, but he didn’t go.

On the night of the encounter, the senior student came to pick him up, dragged him to a quiet place and used a razor blade to slash his neck, injuring most of his arteries, nerves and trachea.

He, thereafter, abandoned the victim in the pool of his blood to breathe his last and fled.

After some minutes, the victim reportedly struggled and crawled to the principals office, before he finally slumped and became unconscious.

He was rushed to UMTH as he lay critical at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The perpetrator, who was said to be indoctrinated on psychotropic substances, was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police for further investigations.

The victim was a son of Late Justice Sadi Mato of the Federal High Court, Kano State.

A family source told Stonix News that such crime has been rife in the college with no dire consequences on the culprits.

“This is not the first case of armed violence in the college, there are several other cases relating to sexual abuse and armed violence, but the school management had swept it under the carpet.

“This is likely to mean we are creating more victims as a result of our failure to act,” the source conjectured.

Meanwhile, the Borno State Ministry of Education, on Saturday, has constituted a five-man committee to investigate the attempt to slit the throat of Jubril Sadi Mato of Elkanemi College of Theology by the unnamed senior student of the college with a razor blade .

In a letter addressed to the chairman of the committee, Alh Sadiq Kadafur dated 21st, January, 2022 and signed by the permanent Secretary, Alh Mohammed Mustapha Abatcha, the ministry gave the committe one week to submit its findings to the Commissioner for Education in the state.

The committe is mandated to investigate and arrive at the remote causes of the incident as well as to suggest ways to curtail its recurrence.

Other members of the the committee are representatives of the Commissioner of Police, Director State Security, Civil Defence and Hajiya Hadiza Nasir Wali, Director Quality Assurance.

Recall that operatives of Kano Police Command Thursday arrested Tanko, 30, and one Hashim Isyaku, 37, for allegedly kidnapping and poisoning the innocent five-year-old girl Hanifa Abubakar in Kano to death.

Tanko, who’s a father-of-two himself, confessed he demanded a ransom of N6 million from the girl’s family, but only N100,000 was redeemed, which he claimed, was used to settle his teachers.
