UI College Of Medicine Halts Actual Academic Activities Over Surge In Covid-19 Among Students

The management of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, has halted all actual academic activities over surge in Covid-19 pandemic among students students in Alexander Brown Hall (ABH).

Professor of Psychiatry and Provost of the college, Olayinka Omigbodun, in a statement, said following an emergency meeting on December 18, 2021 with the receipt of its recommendation on December 22, actual lectures had been stopped, thenceforth.

“Following the reported increase in the rate of COVID-19 infection among students of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan who are resident in the Alexander Brown Hall (ABH), the College Expanded Executive Committee convened an emergency virtual meeting on Saturday, 18 December, 2021 at 8pm to discuss the situation and make recommendations to the Vice Chancellor.

“Upon receipt of the recommendations the Vice Chancellor convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday, 22 December 2021 and the following decisions were taken for immediate implementation:

“All physical academic activities should cease with immediate effect until further notice.

“All academic sessions should immediately proceed to virtual mode until further notice*. (The situation will be reviewed regularly).

“The Management of the Alexander Brown Hall will immediately commence risk assessments and screening of all resident students.

“Students are encouraged to proceed home for the festive season to decongest the Hall.

“Arrangements are being put in place to isolate students who are COVID19 and provide treatment for those who are symptomatic.

“Kindly give immediate effect to all decisions,” the statement read in whole.
