By REPORTS have surfaced claiming that Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has passed away from complications related to stage three cancer.
According to a senior government official, Lagbaja allegedly died nearly 48 hours ago in an undisclosed hospital overseas.
However, this information has not yet been confirmed by relevant authorities.
Sources suggest that the delay in the announcement of his death may be due to ongoing lobbying among high-ranking military officers for his successor.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, who was born on February 28, 1968, in Ilobu, Osun State, was appointed to the position by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023, becoming the 27th Chief of Army Staff.
Despite widespread speculation, the Nigerian military and government officials have yet to release an official statement regarding these claims.
The situation remains unverified as the nation awaits confirmation.
