Gun-wielding men have abducted Bishop of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Jebba Diocese, Rt Rev Oluwaseun Aderogba and his wife and their driver.
They were reportedly abducted by the gunmen along Ogbomoso/Oyo road on Sunday evening while on their way from Jebba, Kwara State, to Oyo.
The Bishop’s Chaplain, who was with the victims, reportedly narrated how he escaped the attack.
”We were traveling from Jebba to Oyo, when it was few kilometers to Oyo, our vehicle developed a fault.
“My lord bishop called the lord Bishop of Oyo Bishop Aladekugbe for help.
“However, before help could come, some armed men surrounded and ordered them into the bush.
“I was lucky. They didn’t see me because of my black cassock.
“I fell flat on my belly to hide myself while they marched my bishop and wife deep into the forest,” the chaplain narrated.
Reports say Bishop Aladekugbe has alerted the leadership of the church, Most Revd Henry Ndukuba and other members of the house of bishops.
A contact has also been established with the church with a N50 million ransom demanded by the marauders. Negotiations are said to be ongoing.
Meanwhile, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, has confirmed the abduction of the Bishop of Anglican Diocese, Jebba, Kwara State, Rt. Rev. Aderogba, alongside his wife and driver.
