After 30 Years of Waiting, Nigerian Couple Welcomes First Child, Sparks Emotional Reactions

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

A Nigerian couple, Segun and Kemi Omotinugbon, has touched hearts across the country after sharing an emotional testimony of how they welcomed their first child nearly three decades after marriage.

The couple gave the testimony at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries during the Power Must Change Hands service on Saturday, 7 February 2026, where their story moved members of the congregation to tears and quickly went viral on social media.
Speaking during the service, Mrs Omotinugbon revealed that they got married in July 1994 and spent years trusting God for the fruit of the womb. As she recounted the long and painful journey, her husband was visibly overwhelmed with emotion.

According to her, the couple explored several medical options over the years, including two unsuccessful in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedures, before she finally conceived in May 2024.

“It has been a very challenging journey, but God showed Himself faithful in the end,” she said, adding that the church’s General Overseer stood by them throughout the years with prayers and counselling.

Mrs Omotinugbon further disclosed that she conceived at the age of 56 and gave birth in January 2025, shortly before turning 57.

“The journey was full of pain, tears and occasional joy.

Whenever I heard others testify, I would ask God when it would be my turn. But God did not put us to shame,” she told the congregation.

She also recalled surviving a leg injury during the waiting period, noting that she remained hopeful even then. “I told God that I would still need my leg to carry pregnancy, and God helped me,” she said.

The testimony has continued to attract widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians congratulating the couple and describing their experience as a powerful story of faith, perseverance and hope.
