ANOTHER tragic accident involving two fuel-laden tankers, on Thursday, had a head collision and exploded, reducing three cars, a mechanic workshop, and the tankers to rubble.
The incident, three in three weeks, occurred on Thursday, February 13, 2025, along Ojoo-Iwo Road, precisely at Ajao Junction, beside BOVAS Petrol Station.

The fuel tankers, both headed from Lagos to the North, were involved in the fatal collision in front of the IBEDC office.
The state of the drivers of the tankers could not be ascertained when our reporter went to the scene Friday morning.

Perplexed residents of the area
Eyewitnesses, however, said the accident was caused by reckless overtaking, leading to one of the tankers tumbling off the expressway and colliding with high-tension electricity wires.
The impact resulted in an immediate fire outbreak, causing a clangorous explosion.
The second tanker, in an attempt to overtake its colleague, veered off the road and crashed into the IBEDC office gate, a witness further divulged.

Impact of the accident
The explosion engulfed at least three cars parked at a nearby mechanic workshop, reducing them to ashes alongside the overturned tanker.
As of 8:00a.m on Thursday, when our correspondent arrived at the scene, there were no security or fire service personnel in sight.
The second fuel tanker, with its content still intact, remains on the spot, raising concerns about another potential disaster.

Stonix News reports that Thursday incident marks the third reported accident of this nature along the Iwo Road – Oojo Expressway in recent times.
Residents and commuters have expressed frustration over the recurring tanker accidents and the delayed emergency response and the negligence of appropriate authorities to halt the trend.
