Less than 48 hours to Christmas, no fewer than three persons have been crushed to death and four others injured as a truck laden with gas lost control and rammed into a crowd of commuters at Mokola Roundabout in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident, it was gathered, led to pandemonium as people began to run helter-skelter.
Stonix News gathered that the fatal accident occurred at 11:20a.m and it involved a gas tank belonging to Richbam with registration number: MAP810YY, two Micra cars and four motorcycles.
According to the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Road Transport Management (OYRTMA), Mogaji Akin Fagbemi, who gave the details, the cause of the accident was as a result of brake failure.
“Immediately the accident occurred, OYRTMA officials rescued three victims and were quickly rushed to UCH, why two people were removed from the trap of truck and the corpses had been deposited at Adeoyo hospital.
”The rescue operations were done by OYRTMA in collaboration with the Nigeria Police, Road Safety, Civil Defence and Operation Burst.
“The vehicles involved had been removed from the road and were towed to Mokola police station for further investigation,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the identities of the victims could not be ascertained as of the time of filing the report.
