WAEC Clarifies Resit Exam Rumours In Nigeria

THE West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed recent rumours suggesting the introduction of a “resit examination” for Nigerian candidates.

In a statement on @waecnigeria on X on Wednesday, WAEC emphasised that this information is inaccurate and does not apply to Nigeria.

“Please Note: The news circulating, about WAEC conducting a “resit examination” for candidates, is not applicable to Nigerian candidates.
However, candidates with outstanding grades can register for WASSCE (PC1)2025 that commences soon,” the post read.

The clarification comes amid widespread speculation following a series of unverified reports on social media platforms that candidates who failed certain papers could resit them.

WAEC explained that while some countries under its jurisdiction may conduct special resit examinations, this arrangement is not available for Nigerian candidates.

Instead, candidates with unresolved results from previous examinations are encouraged to register for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, First Series (PC1), scheduled for 2025.

The council reassured the public of its commitment to providing accurate information and advised students to rely on official communication channels for updates.

It noted that spreading false information could lead to unnecessary anxiety among candidates and their parents.

WAEC further reiterated its dedication to ensuring a smooth and transparent examination process.

This development highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it widely.

WAEC encouraged stakeholders to contact its offices or consult its website for clarity on any issues regarding examinations and results.

The council warned against the dangers of misinformation, urging candidates to focus on preparing for their exams.

The WASSCE (PC1) 2025 registration process is set to begin soon, offering candidates an opportunity to complete their certification.

WAEC assured students that all necessary measures have been put in place to facilitate a seamless registration process, maintaining its tradition of excellence in administering credible examinations.
