The Zamfara State House of Assembly members have vowed to go on with the impeachment of the embattled Deputy Governor, Mr Mahadi Aliyu Mohammed Gusau.
They averred that no court on earth can stop them from impeaching the Deputy Governor.
They maintained that their action has not violated any of their constitutional responsibilities in the state.
The chairman, House Standing Committee on Information Honourable Shamsudeen Hassan Bosko, while addressing newsmen on Tuesday evening at the Committee Chamber of the State House of Assembly in Gusau, said they were only exercising their constitutional obligations.
“We are ready to present allegations against the deputy governor, Mr Mahadi Aliyu Mohammed to the panel of investigation constituted by the chief judge of the State, justice Kulu Aliyu,” Bosko announced.
He said 18 members have endorsed the notice of impeachment of the state’s deputy governor, as against the 16 members which they have noe exceeded.
He explained that they had satisfied the requirement of Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) which requires 1/3 of whole Members of the House to endorsed notice of impeachment.
According to him, their action to impeach deputy governor Mahadi Aliyu Mohammed has not in any way violated the constitution.
“We have not violated constitution, we are only exercising our constitutional rights.
So, no court on this earth can stop us from the move to impeach the deputy governor.
“As you may be aware that Members of the State House of Assembly, in discharge of their Constitutional duties, formally served the Speaker with Impeachment Notice of His Excellency the Deputy Governor Mahadi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau on some allegations.”
