Gift EddyStruggling Pregnant Widow, 33, Works As Laborer To Feed Her Children, a 33-year-old pregnant widow, works as a laborer, carrying heavy loads to make ends meet. With a visibly swollen belly and sweat trickling down her face, she shares her story of survival in a harsh economic climate.

“I don’t have a husband. He is late,” Mrs. Eddy explained while taking a brief rest from loading head-pans filled with construction materials.

“I came to work on Sunday because there’s no food at home. Life is hard.”

Mrs. Eddy is not only a widow but a mother of three children—two girls and a boy—while pregnant with her fourth child.

Her husband passed away recently, leaving her to fend for the family. “To eat is a problem,” she lamented, as Nigeria’s rising inflation, skyrocketing food prices, and soaring fuel costs compound her struggles.

Coming from Oyede Community in Isoko North Local Government Area, Mrs. Eddy is determined not to sit idle.

“I cannot sit down doing nothing. My children need to eat, and they need to go to school,” she said with conviction.

Despite her physical condition, she continues to work tirelessly, knowing that every day is a fight for survival. “It’s hardship. Would I ordinarily be doing this kind of job? No. But I have no choice.”

Mrs. Eddy’s story is one of resilience, but also one of desperate need. As she prepares to welcome her fourth child, she is left with few resources to sustain her family.

“I need support,” she appealed. “Anybody can help. Tompolo, well-meaning Nigerians, and the Delta State Government, please come and help me.”

As she pleads for assistance, her voice echoes the cry of many Nigerians facing similar hardships.

Despite the woman’s daunting circumstances, Mrs. Eddy remains determined to provide for her children and ensure that they have a future, even if it means carrying the weight of her burdens, both literal and figurative, on her own.
