UYO: The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone B, Akwa Ibom State chapter, on Tuesday decried the poor state of some facilities on campus.

The students, therefore, staged a peaceful protest on Tuesday to compel the management of the University of Uyo to respond to its demands.
The students, during the protest, threatened to seal off the entrance of the University of Uyo if the management does not respond to its demand in five days.
The Tuesday’s protest, which was a dress rehearsal of some sort, was staged in the early hours of Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the University’s Town Campus and Annex Campus main gates, Uyo Local Government Area, of the state.

The protest, which was led by the association’s state representative (name uncertain) was a reminder to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, to accede to its demands which include the repair and restructuring of some of the hostels in the university.
Others include installation of new mosquito nets, sockets and security light, refurbishment of hostel toilets and fumigation of hostels.
Professor Ndaeyo and his management were also requested to embark on the construction of a perimeter fence at the school ravine and permanent site to protect lives and properties of the students on campus, recruitment of more health workers, the upgrade of pharmacy and reactivation of e-Facility.

NANS also demanded the immediate and unconditional removal and refunding of all faculty and department dues paid to Skyline Pay and ensure that payment be made through University of Uyo Micro Finance Bank for proper documentation and accountability as students spend more money using Skyline pay.
The union, however, reiterated that if in five working days the management does not respond to the above demands, or seal up the facilities of the university.
