The advertising project themed: “Communication Arts Advertising Project (CAAP ’23),” which was slated to take place at the Silverbird Cinema at Tropicana, Uyo, flopped because the management of the company did not make necessary provisions for the event to kick off after receiving a payment of N150,000 for the venue.

As a result, the students have taken to their various social media platform to call out the company for messing up their efforts and wasting their day.

It was gathered that the students, organisers and sponsors of the event, who had put everything in place for the past four months to ensure the success of the advertising project, arrived at the venue but were kept waiting for more than seven hours while being fed with excuses.

Some students, who spoke with Stonix News, said that the organisers made sure that everything, ranging from light and sound, were put in place the previous day, but were shocked to see that none of those things were working and when asked why, it was said that the Silverbird Cinema in Uyo had been asked to shut down prior to that day.

In a WhatsApp conversation obtained by Stonix News, the manager of Silverbird Cinema Head Office in Lagos, Mr. Justice Omachonu, apologised to the organiser of the event, Dr. Jon Ita, saying that the management was looking into the issue and was ready to make a refund.

He said, “We are truly sorry about the incident that unfolded today, our management is looking into it already and we are deeply saddened it affected your event.

“I understand our apology cannot redeem the damage this has caused you, but we have agreed to make full refund and also grant you access to use the space for the event if you can reschedule it; your patronage matters to us and we will definitely not take that for granted; we are deeply sorry this affected your event.

“I can call you tomorrow if it is convenient for more discussion, I will like to use this opportunity to say, aside the refund and use of space, we can always accommodate the student from the University of Uyo for excursion as part of our CSR.

In reaction, Dr. Ita said: “Justice! the issue here is beyond full refund. We will demand more than that; we demand a public written and published apology to the University management and the management of Ibom Air before we talk about any financial inducement; you guys should get ready with your lawyers and see the University.”
