Again, Police Officer Assaults Man In Viral Video

Micheal Chukwuebuka, Reporting

A female Alabama police officer has been placed on administrative leave after a video showing her using a stun gun and cursing at a man whose hands were cuffed and crying went viral on Facebook.

In the viral video, a handcuffed man was lying in the street as an officer with the Reform Police Department tells him to stand up.

The female officer apparently tortured the man even when he appeared to be harmless as both hands were cuffed to his back.

Since its release, the video has stirred viewers across the country as many called for her dismissal.

Until the 45-seconds video ended, it is unclear what happened before or after the clip posted to Facebook.

Reform Police Chief Richard Black and Mayor Melody Davis, in a brief statement confirmed the viral video and said the police department is investigating the incident.

“In accordance with City Policy, the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted,” part of the statement reads.

The victim has been identified as Micah Washington, 25, of Tuscaloosa.

Stonix News reports that officers pulled up as Washington and two other people were changing a tire on their car.

Despite the officer’s assault, 25-year-old Washington, however, was charged with resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, obstructing governmental operations, drug trafficking and unlawful possession of a firearm.

As of the time of filing this report, he is being held at the Pickens County jail on a $505,000 bond.

Washington’s loved ones and members of the community, on Monday night, gathered near City Hall to protest the arrest and demand accountability.
