Suspected bandits have killed over 60 vigilantes otherwise known as ‘Yan Sa Kai, in Zuru Emirate of Kebbi State.
According to BBC, the tragic incident occurred after the local guards launched an onslaught against the bandits.
The victims, who have been buried, were killed in the wee hours of Monday.
The bandits were said to have laid ambush by hiding on trees along the road leading to their dens.
They reportedly opened fire after the vigilantes were trapped in the middle of their attackers.
The Yan-Sa-Kai were from various towns and villages of the emirate.
No official statement has emerged from the security or government authorities.
