A gold mine collapse in eastern Mali has claimed dozens of lives and injured many more.
Stonix News reports that the disaster occurred at the Bilali Koto site in the commune of Dabia, with a confirmed death toll of 42.
This tragic incident, which happened on Saturday, February 15, marks the second major mining accident in Mali this year, highlighting concerns over the safety and regulation of the country’s lucrative gold mining industry.

Malian authorities have confirmed that the mine was operated by Chinese nationals, and an investigation is underway to determine whether the mine was operating legally.
The incident has raised concerns over the risks faced by artisanal gold miners in Mali, where the mining sector provides income for over 2 million people.
