By The Governor of Edo State, Senator Okpebholo, has strongly condemned the tragic killing of several individuals in Uromi by a suspected mob.
Representing the Governor during an assessment visit to the scene, the Chief Security Officer of Government House, Solomon Oseghale, directed the State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, to launch a full-scale investigation into the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were young men of Hausa origin who had boarded a truck travelling to the North.
They were reportedly stopped by members of a local security group who, upon searching the vehicle, discovered firearms.
This discovery is said to have incited a mob attack by individuals in the vicinity.
While condemning the incident, the Governor reiterated that no one has the right to take another person’s life, emphasising that the barbaric nature of the killings is deeply concerning.
The Chief Security Officer called for calm, assuring law-abiding residents of Uromi, particularly the Hausa community, that they could continue their daily activities without fear.
He noted that officers of the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies had been deployed to restore peace and normality in the area.
During a condolence visit to the Hausa community in Uromi, the CSO described the incident as avoidable and conveyed the Governor’s sympathy.
He assured them that efforts were being intensified to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Expressing appreciation for the Governor’s swift response, the leader of the Hausa community in Uromi, Mallam Aliyu Haruna, thanked him for deploying the CSO and other security personnel to ensure the community’s safety.
