AN elderly man, on Thursday, was arrested and charged with killing his wife after an argument over pancakes.
Steven Schwartz, 85, from Washington D.C, is accused of fatally stabbing his 81-year-old wife, Sharron Schwartz at their home on Sunday.
In a statement announcing the arrest, the U.S. attorney’s office said Steven Schwartz did not want to eat the pancakes his wife made and stabbed her in the back.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, police responded to a report of a stabbing at 3:40 p.m and found Sharron Schwartz with injuries and Steven Schwartz with self-inflicted injuries.
Stonix News learnt that they were both taken to a hospital, where Sharron Schwartz died.
As contained in a police affidavit filed in the district criminal case, Steven Schwartz said that he had an aversion to the food his wife was trying to make him eat and there was an argument.
He also said that he had a condition of eating diversion and depression, adding that his wife did not deserve to die and that he wished he had died.
During another interview, Steven Schwartz told investigators that he loved his wife and he prayed the killing was a delusion.
Steven Schwartz was charged with second-degree murder while armed; a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 2, 2024.
