Family Of Murdered Photojournalist Demands Justice

THE family of the murdered photojournalist, Mr. Ayobami Aiyepeku, is demanding justice after the suspected killer, Jacob Adebayo Pelumi, allegedly committed suicide.

Stonix News reports that the Kogi Police Command has confirmed that Pelumi’s corpse was found in a hotel room with a suicide note and a bottle of an insecticide, popularly called “Sniper.”

The suspect, who’s an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS), allegedly silenced his friend on Tuesday between the hours of 8:30p.m and went away with Ayobami’s body.

The family of the photojournalist is urging the Federal and Kogi State governments, as well as the Inspector General of Police, to unravel the mystery behind Ayobami’s brutal killing and ensure that justice is served.

Aiyepeku family is also demanding the timely recovery of Ayobami’s body for proper burial.

They described Ayobami as a kind, loving, and caring person who was not quarrelsome.

The deceased’s father, Chief James Aiyepeku, in Lokoja, appealed to the Kogi State Government and security agencies to help recover his son’s body and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Ayobami is a very gentle and cool-headed, hardworking; he has never, one day, quarrelled with anybody in his office for the past four years he has been working there.

“I am appealing to Gov. Ahmed Ododo and the security agencies to help me fetch out the body of my child, and also bring the perpetrators of this heinous act against my son to justice,” he pleaded.

The deceased elder brother, Mr Timothy Aiyepeku and his Uncle, Dr Ibikunle Jide, both appealed to the Kogi Commissioner of Police, IGP and Kogi Government to ensure justice for Ayobami.

“As I am talking to you now, the body of my deceased younger brother has not been found.

“Ayobami was a kind, loving and caring brother, very humble and hardworking. We demand justice for his death.

“On behalf of my family, I am appealing to the Federal and Kogi Governments and Police authorities, the IGP to help unravel the mystery behind the brutal killing of my brother, as well as ensure that his body is found,” Timothy said.

Jide commended the police for the proactive step taken so far in addressing the issue, but urged them to intensify efforts in recovering Ayobami’s body, and bring the culprits to book.

“Every hand must be on deck to ensure that Ayobami’s body is recovered as soon as possible, and, beyond the effort of Police, the government must be proactive.

“We, sincerely, appreciate the Media for being very supportive in ensuring that the incident is widely reported,” Jide said.

Stonix News reports that the police have already launched an investigation into the incident and have recovered a Hilux vehicle and a deep freezer used by the suspect.

However, the family is still waiting for Ayobami’s body to be found and is demanding answers about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

The state’s police are seeking the collaboration of the deceased’s family, colleagues, and the public to volunteer credible information to aid in the investigation.
