Halloween Tragedy: South Korea Declares National Mourning For Victims Of Stampede

FOLLOWING the recent tragic stampede, which left about 153 people dead and several others injured in the Republic of South Korea, the South Korean President, Yoon Suk-yeol, has declared a period of national mourning taking effect from today, Sunday, 30th of October, 2022.

Stonix News recalled that on Saturday, 29th of October, at about 10:20p.m (UK time), more than 100,000 people were said to have gathered in Itaewon for the country’s annual Halloween festival when the tragic event occurred.

Reacting to the tragic event, President Joe Biden of the United States of America, on behalf of himself and his wife, First Last Jill Biden, expressed his dismay in an official statement.

“We grieve with the people of the Republic of Korea and send our best wishes for a quick recovery to all those who were injured

“The United States of America stands with the Republic of Korea during this tragic time”, he said.

The national mourning period, as declared by President Yoon Suk-yeol will begin today Sunday, through to Saturday, November 5th.

As of the time of filing this report, hundreds of sympathisers stormed the scene of the stampede with flowers, paying tribute to those who lost their lives.
