A fatal road crash near Lukoro in Edati, Niger State, reportedly claimed the lives of 13 people, including a newlywed bride, her five bridemaids, her brother-in-law, and six others.
Tongues are wagging over what was supposed to be a joyous event that eventually turned sorrowful within a space of time.
The horror occurred last weekend and was attributed to over speeding and reckless overtaking on the part of the drivers of the two vehicles.
Two vehicles, a Toyota Corolla car traveling from Mokwa to Bida and a commercial Nissan bus heading from Minna, the Niger State capital, to Ogbomoso in Oyo State, were said to have collided.
The Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Tsukwan Kumar, said the crash claimed the lives of eight female adults, four male adults, and one male child.
He noted that four female adults, one male adult, one male child, and one female child sustained life-threatening injuries.
The injured victims were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Bida, for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the morgue.
Stonix News reports that nine bodies of the victims were handed over to their relatives at the scene of crash upon identification.
Mr Kumar stated that the remaining four bodies yet to be claimed were taken to General Hospital, Kutigi mortuary.
