How Two Died In Canadian Embassy Fire, As Tinubu Expresses Condolences

TWO people, on Monday, died as fire gutted Canadian embassy in Abuja on Monday afternoon.

It was gathered that the tank in the power generating house, containing 2000 litres of diesel, exploded which sparked the fire.

Two of the personnel servicing the generator were fatally injured and two persons survived and are on admission at the National Hospital Trauma Centre with severe burns.

The FCT Fire Service was able to contain the fire around 12.30 p.m. The victims were Nigerians.

Reacting to the incident, the Acting Director General of FEMA, Mr Mohammed Ibrahim Sabo, called for caution in the handling of petroleum products, particularly with the outset of the dry season.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has sympathized with the Canadian government, diplomatic community, and all persons affected by the fire incident which occurred on Monday at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja.

According to a statement issued on Monday by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), the president assured the Canadian authorities of the full support of the Nigerian government in the aid of diplomatic and local staff of the High Commission, who were particularly affected by the incident.
