How Vigilantes Brutalised NYSC Member In Anambra

A female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Jennifer Elohor, has spoken out after a horrifying encounter with operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group, an incident that has sparked outrage across Nigeria.

Elohor recounted that on 23 July 2025, her lodge was stormed by armed men later identified as members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, also known as Operation Udo Ga-Achi.

She said the operatives kicked down their door and, despite seeing their NYSC uniforms and identity cards, accused her and her colleagues of being internet fraudsters.

“What gave me the right, as a woman, to challenge them?” Elohor recalled the men sneering after shoving her down a staircase.

She alleged that she was beaten, stripped, and dragged outside, while one of her colleagues was struck with an iron rod for trying to defend her.

“They pressed my neck, slapped me, and threatened to smash our phones if we tried to call anyone,” she added.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of the vigilante operatives, who were paraded following widespread condemnation.

Civil society groups and Nigerians online are now demanding justice for Elohor and her colleagues, as well as stricter regulation of vigilante groups whose excesses continue to raise concerns about abuse of power.
