THE Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has endorsed the immediate suspension of Assistant Superintendent of Police Drambi Vandi, the officer involved in the killing of Barrister Omobolanle Raheem on Christmas Day.
IGP Usman Baba noted that the recommendation to suspend the officer was in accordance with the internal disciplinary procedures of the Force, according to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
ASP Vandi had, on Sunday, December 25, shot and killed seven-month pregnant Mrs Raheem while she was out to celebrate Christmas with her family at the Ajiwe area of Ajah, Lagos State.
It was also stated that “the suspension is without prejudice to the constitutional presumption of innocence in favour of the officer.”
As a result, the IGP reiterated the Force’s dedication to upholding the law and informed the public of his administration’s resolve to making sure that justice is not only served, but also clearly perceived to have been served in this case.
The statement concluded with the IGP’s appeal to the public to be calm as all hands are on deck to ensure justice prevails while measures have been put in place to prevent future occurrences.
