By THE Lagos State House of Assembly today ordered an immediate halt to the demolition exercise underway at the Makoko community waterfront.
The announcement was made by Honourable Noheem Adams, the Chairman of the Ad-Hoc committee established by the Speaker of the House, Rt Honourable Mudashiru Obasa.
The order comes after hundreds of displaced Makoko residents staged a protest at the Assembly complex last week over the ongoing demolition.
The protest had escalated tensions, leading to the arrest of several activists who are currently facing trial.
Honourable Adams, who serves as the Leader of the House, read out the committee’s resolution following a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Lateef Jakande Auditorium within the Assembly premises.
