Lady Fakes Kidnapping For Ransom, Two Arrested


DELTA State Police Command has apprehended 21-year-old Princess Okolie for staging her own kidnapping to extort ₦2 million from her parents.

Her accomplice, Prince Atigbi, was also arrested after receiving the ransom.

The incident occurred between 30th December 2024 and 2nd January 2025.

The suspects

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, Mrs Oliko Joy reported her daughter missing after she failed to return home.

The next day, the family received a call demanding a ₦2 million ransom for her release.

Concerned, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered the special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad to investigate.

Operatives, led by CSP Labe Joseph, launched an intelligence-driven investigation and swiftly apprehended Atigbi during the ransom collection.

Upon interrogation, Atigbi confessed that he was not a genuine kidnapper but was following instructions from Okolie, his girlfriend.

Further investigation led to Okolie’s arrest.

Okolie admitted to fabricating the kidnapping to obtain money from her parents.

The police recovered the ransom money, and both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

The case highlights the misuse of trust and growing concerns about youth delinquency.
