THE men’s marathon world record holder, Kelvin Kiptum, has died in a road accident in his home country.
Stonix News gathered that the 24-year-old Kenyan sprinter was killed alongside his coach, Gervais Hakizimana, from Rwanda, in a car on a road in western Kenya on Sunday night.

Residents of Chepsamo village in Keiyo South, in the early hours of Monday Feb. 12, 2024, gathered at Kelvin Kiptum’s home to offer condolences and comfort the family.

Kiptum made a breakthrough in 2023 as a rival to compatriot Eluid Kipchoge, one of the greatest marathon runners.

Kiptum is regarded as a hero who triumphed in Valencia, Chicago, London and in other top competitions across the world.

His mental strength and discipline, according to reports, were unmatched.

In Chicago last October, Kiptum bettered Kipchoge’s achievement, clocking the 26.1 miles (42 kilometers) in two hours and 35 seconds.
