Nemesis caught up with six robbery suspects, weekend, as Nigeria police operatives fell two and arrested four of them during a gun duel in Anambra.
The fierce gun duel, the police claimed, took place at Obosi by Onitsha-Owerri road, Anambra State.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ikenga Tochukwu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) made the claim in a statement on Monday.
He said two locally-made pistols, five cartridges and the tricycle used by the gangsters were part of items recovered from the suspects.
“On 5th December, 2021, at about 0530 hours Anambra Police Command Operatives intercepted a three-man armed robbery gang operating around idemili flyover, Obosi by Onitsha-Owerri Road.
“The hoodlums, who were about to rob passengers travelling in a Toyota Sienna van, opened fire on sighting the police.
“The operatives responded swiftly gunning down two armed suspects, later identified as Chinedu Okeri ‘M’ from Enugu and Chukwuebuka Orizu from Anambra State while the third suspect, Abuchi Osim ‘M’ from Enugu State was arrested.
“In a follow up operation, the arrested suspect led the operatives to their criminal hideout in Atani Ogbaru LGA where Chinedu Ogunna ‘M’ 21yrs, Arinze Chukwu ‘M’ 16yrs and Ebuka Ayazie ‘M’ 18yrs were also arrested,” he noted.
According to Ikenga, the arrested suspects claimed to be members of the same cult group and armed robbery gang.
Meanwhile, quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, DSP Ikenga as assuring that the Command will not relent in safeguarding lives and property in the state.
“The command has since rejigged its policing strategy and made same potent and dynamic to respond to any emergency and security challenge will not relent in safeguarding lives and properties of people in the state especially during the yuletide season and beyond,” he noted.
