Organ Harvest: It’s Sad How Igbos Are Treating Ekweremadu As An Orphan – Reno Omokri

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

Former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, in reaction to the arrest and arraignment of Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and his wife over organ harvest allegation, has frowned at the way the lawmaker is being treated like an orphan by his own Igbo people.

Stonix News reported that Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, were, on Thursday, arrested on suspicion of plotting to harvest the organs of a child in the UK.

The couple were later remanded in custody, appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later on Thursday and denied bail.

They are both charged with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

But reacting to the avalanche of abuses being heaped on the embattled senator on the social media, Omokri said treating Ekweremadu as an already convicted criminal by his own people when he has not been found guilty was unfortunate.

The exiled former aide compared the Ekweremadu situation to that of embattled former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, saying that Kyari’s supporters stayed with him till the end.

Stonix News reports that as of Thursday evening, apex body of the Igbo race, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has declared that the embattled couple should carry their cross squarely by stripping him off his Chieftaincy titles.

“As bad as Abba Kyari is, his people stand by him until he is proven guilty.

“In the US, Trump’s crowd stayed loyal to him, no matter the charge. An accusation isn’t a conviction.

“I feel sorry for this red cap chief. His own people are the ones already condemning him!

“His own people have totally forgotten the development he attracted to his area and are acting like he has already been convicted.

“I doubt he will be convicted. There must be an explanation. The man is not a pauper. It is sad how he is treated as an orphan by his own,” Reno lamented.

Meanwhile, reacting to the arrest, the Igbo socio-cultural group said  “The news of the arrest of the highly placed Senator and his wife startled Ndigbo and Nigerians. At first, we thought it would be a similarity or names resemblance, but the confirmation of his arrest and after he was paraded before in a Uk Magistrate Court, prompted the Igbo leadership to strip off all titles and privileges accorded to him as an Ime Obi member ( the apex decision making organ of Ohanaeze.”

The statement, e – signed by the Secretary – General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo (Worldwide), Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, added: ” Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls on the good people of Enugu West Senatorial zone to initiate the process of his recall from the Senate; he deserves to be flushed into the dustbin of history; this anathema is condemned in strong words and must come with strict sanctions against Ekweremadu.

“Ndigbo will not condone such actions in Igboland; he dishonored the people he represents in the Senate. The stigma of these allegations will torment Ike Ekweremadu and his wife and we doubt if he can recover from the despicable charges that might end his political sojourn as the Senator representing the Enugu West Senatorial zone.”
