NO fewer than 6,500 graduands of the University of Ibadan have bagged first class degrees in various fields as the institution commences its 76th convocation ceremony at the International Conference Center (ICC), Wednesday 13th, November 2024.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, said that a total of 6,553 graduates, including students from Distance Learning Centre (DLC) were awarded degrees while a total of 111 bagged Diploma certificates.
“In the face of the unprecedented downturn being experienced, I believe that your journey in the University of Ibadan has honed you for the challenges out there.
“We celebrate, not only your academic accomplishment, but your perseverance.
“You have earned your degree, but most importantly you have gained knowledge and skills during the journey….
“Nevertheless, remember that education is a foundation not a destination,” he averred.
Other prominent personalities at the ceremony included the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole; Ademola Adumola, Vice Chancellor of Aliqmah University, Prof. Noah Yusuf, Rector of University of Ibadan, Prof. C. Chuka, as well as parents and guardians of the graduands.
Meanwhile, the best graduating students included Babatunde Oluwagbemiga Olayinka of the Department of Linguistics, , Faculty of Arts, Oyekan Usman Bisola of the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, and Odunsi Temidayo Mary of the College of Medicine.
In an unprecedented manner in recent times, a total of 38 First-Class graduates have emerged from the Faculty of Arts at the ongoing 76th Convocation of the University of Ibadan, out of 483 graduates.
Stonix News reports that each of the awardees were called to the stage, where they shook hands with the Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
VC Adebowale praised the graduates, saying, “Your academic excellence is a testament to your unwavering commitment and the university’s rigorous standards.”
On his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Solomon Oyetade, expressed pride in the graduates’ achievements, adding that it reflected the faculty’s dedication to academic excellence.
