Rita Enemuru, Reporting

An 18-year-old teenage boy has been arrested by operatives of Niger State Police Command for kidnapping and killing his neighbour’s son, one Yasir Salisu in Niger State.

The teenager, Nafiu Umar and his accomplice Usman Sabiu, 22, allegedly kidnapped Yasir for a ransom of N100,000.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Wasiu, in Minna, the suspect confessed to killing Yasir because he couldn’t produce his father’s phone number to demand the ransom.

The suspects also mentioned that he had to kill the victim because he recognized them as his neighbours.

“Usman Sabiu confessed to have conspired with Nafiu Umar and abducted the missing person to the house of Nafiu with the intention of collecting N100,000 from the victim’s father.

“Unfortunately, he claimed that the victim could not produce the father’s contact to demand ransom and both suspects were identified by the victim, who are neighbours, hence the victim was strangled and k!lled by the suspects,” the statement read.

The PPRO added that the suspects buried the body in a shallow grave by the riverside.
