Story That Touches The Heart

Two 20-Year-Old Suspects Strangle Woman In Farm Over Motorcycle

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

Two 20-year-old suspects, identified simply as Ekene and Stanley, have allegedly murdered a woman in cold blood in an attempt to steal her motorcycle in her farm in Delta State.

The suspects, from Orogho Town in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state, met the yet-to-be-identified woman in the farm eating, when Stanley took off his shirt to strangle her.

In the process of strangling her, she fell down and, in tears, identified and called out one of the boys, ‘Aboy,’ when Stanley grabbed her machete and hacked her to death on realising they’ve been recognised.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, gave the chilling incident in a video made available to Stonix News on Tuesday, while interviewing the suspects. He, however, didn’t say when the horrific incident occurred.

One of the suspects, Ekene, said that they were arrested after he reported himself to the vigilante in their community as suggested by his mother.

Stanley, on the other hand, said that he didn’t mean to kill the woman, but had to for fear of being reported to the police, the woman having identified him.

In the video, SP Edafe paraded four suspects who were allegedly involved in separate murders.

According to him, one of the suspects murdered his friend and the other murdered a man whom he alleged to have assaulted his mother.

“These are young guys that are supposed to have a wonderful future ahead of them,” police image-maker Edafe began, during the parade.

“They are all less than 30 years and it pains me to tell you that they are all involved in murder cases.

“These two (pointing at them) murdered a woman in the farm while trying to steal her motorcycle.

“One of them murdered his friend. And this one (pointing at another) murdered another man who, according to him, assaulted his mother. He assaulted the man, saw him in the bush and macheted him to death,” he said.

One of the suspects, Ekene, when prompted to speak, said: “I was arrested by vigilante people in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State. I am 20 years old.

“We killed the woman in the bush. When we got to the bush, the woman was sitting down and eating, when this my friend took off his shirt and tied the woman’s neck with it.

“The woman fell down and with tears in her eyes said: ‘Aboy’ because she recognised him.

“Immediately that happened, my friend took the cutlass that she was working with and hacked her on the head and blood started gushing out.

“By then, he had told me to look for the key of the motorcycle, but couldn’t find it. So, we ran fled leaving the bike behind.

“When I got home, I told my mother what happened and she told me to report myself to the vigilante which I did and that was how we were taken to the police station.

“We didn’t plan to kill the woman. When stanley was strangling the woman with his shirt, I asked him what his gain would be if she died and he said that if we don’t kill her, she is going to report us.

“I felt bad when the woman cried and I feel bad now that she has died.”

Stanley, on the other hand, said that they killed the woman in error.
