FOUR persons have been confirmed dead and some others injured in the explosion that rocked Sabongari area of Kano, Kano State, Nigeria, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident occurred at a one-storey building harbouring a school upstairs and a shop under where domestic gas is sold at Abba Road in Sabongari area of Kano.
The pupils were receiving lectures when one of the cylinders reportedly exploded and the impact brought the building down.
Besides the four confirmed dead, several others, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, are dahf to be receiving treatment in hospitals.
However, against an earlier report that suicide attacks might have resumed bombings in the state, the Kano State Police Command has cleared the air.
The Command said the explosion was caused by a has cylinder being sold in one of the shops under the affected building.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Sama’ila Dikko, confirmed the story, saying the impact of the explosion brought down the building.
“It wasn’t a bomb blast. It’s a gas cylinder explosion. The seller’s shop is on the ground floor of the building where the school is located.
“So, when the cylinder exploded, it brought down the building and the pupils got injured. There wasn’t a bomb blast,” he quipped.
