Why I Stole Phone In Lagos Church – 15-Year-Old Confesses

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

A teenager, Solomon Omofuwa, from Edo State, Nigeria, was last Sunday April 11, caught with a stolen android phone in a fast-growing church in Lagos, Nigeria.

The church, Revival City Christian Network Int’l (RCCN), presided over by Apostle Ojo Peter Korede, is located at Alagbado, Lagos.

Stonix News gathered that Solomon, who newly arrived Lagos courtesy of his sister, one Promise, stole the phone shortly after worship service and bolted away.

He got home and found an ATM card under the cover of the phone while trying to remove the SIM card and probably dispose of it.

In a chat with Stonix News after he was caught, Solomon said he stole the phone because he needed money.

He also said he left his parents in Benin to come school in Lagos because life is hard in Edo State.

Here him: “My name is Solomon Omofowa I’m from Edo State. I’ll clock 16 in July 5th and I’m in SS 1.

“My parents live in Benin. I was brought to Lagos together with my brother and my sister to come and attend school in Lagos because things are hard in Benin.

“I attend Tomian Community School in Kola and I live at Sobowale, Lagos.

“That is the only church that I have attended. My sister, named Promise, was the one that brought me to a vigil programme in the church and I was prayed for. I came back on Sunday on my own.”

In his seeming incoherent narration, he further averred that “I only stole one phone. When I took the phone, I didn’t know that ATM was at the back of the phone. I wanted to be using the phone.

“When they dismissed the church service, I saw one brother and asked him to lend me N1000. He agreed and asked me to wait. As I was waiting, that was how I saw the phone and I took it home.

“When I got home, I checked the back of the phone and saw the ATM card inside the phone.

“When I saw the ATM, I regretted taking the phone. When I got home, I didn’t see my sister at home and our door was locked.

“I didn’t have phone to call her so I came out of the compound. As soon as I stepped out, I saw the evangelist. The evangelist saw me and asked me to follow him that the pastor wanted to pray for me.

“That was when I realised that they came for the phone, but I followed them.

“The pastor asked me for the phone and I quickly gave it to him.”

Speaking with the founder and General Overseer of the church, Apostle Korede, he said being tired of incessant burglary in the church in spite of several spiritual vigilance, he had to hand over Solomon to a nearby Naval Barracks for their intervention.

“I have to hand him over to the Navy barracks iñ my area. He confessed he operated last week in a restaurant where he stole a phone. That’s the phone the sister is using. The young boy is a crook, but God will deliver him,” the cleric prayed.

Stonix News, however, recalled that on the night of Thursday January 27, 2022, hoodlums had broken into the fast-rising gospel church and three others located in Alagbado, Lagos, stealing property worth millions of naira.

The church instruments lost to the hoodlums are yet to be recovered by the police over a year after the incident neither has anyone being arrested.
