No fewer than 17 persons were reported roasted to death when a petrol tanker exploded along the busy Lagos-Ibadan highway in Ogun State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the accident happened on Friday, before Isara bridge.
Spokesperson of the FRSC in Ogun, Florence Okpe, said 14 of the bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
She added that FRSC officials were able to identify a man, a woman and a girl.
She said that the tanker had a head-on collission with a Mazda bus marked, ZT728 KLD.
Okpe further said the suspected causes of the fatal crash were route violation and dangerous driving, which resulted in the head-on collision and subsequent fire outbreak.
Meanwhile, the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, has described the crash as an avoidable one, only if caution and obedience to traffic rules and regulations were obeyed.
