My Father And Struggle To See Me Have Best Education

AS a young girl, my father was determined to give me the best education within his means. Although he isn’t educated, he loves education, and he wants his children to have the best.

For my primary education, I attended three schools. He kept moving me until he was satisfied I was in the best primary school in town.

I attended the best private secondary school in Oyo town then; there were only two private schools in Oyo town; in fact, a church owned the other one, and it wasn’t a match for my school. The other schools competing with my school were Federal Government Girls’ College, Oyo, and Federal College of Education Staff School. Those were the three schools rubbing shoulders at that time.

My dad was a ‘mechanic’. Although he was making money, he wanted a better life for his children; he was ready to put in his best to ensure his children were educated.

However, when I got to SS2, my dad’s business wasn’t flourishing as it used to. His specialty was ‘911’, mini trucks, and those vehicles were going into extinction then. My dad had to make a decision that was tough for him.

He withdrew me from Nesto College, the private school where I was, and enrolled me in a public school. I cried my eyes out.

Meanwhile, my thoughts were on my friends I would miss and the ‘disgrace’ of moving from a private school to a public school. ‘Iya n ronu, omo n roka’; poor me.

Last last, I passed my SSCE in one sitting. The strong foundation I had was indeed helpful. God bless my dad.

God bless all fathers (and mothers) who put their comfort aside just to give the best to their children. You are the real MVPs.
