THE Lagos State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing crime in the state, following the arrest of a couple accused of kidnapping an online vendor.
The victim, who had gone to deliver a product in the Iyana Ishashi area, was allegedly abducted and held for ransom.
According to Lagos police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the victim reported the incident on Sunday, stating that she was forcibly dragged inside the customer’s house by a man and a woman, later identified as Emmanuel and Mazioma Okafor.
The couple allegedly stripped the victim naked, assaulted her, and took nude pictures, demanding a ransom of N2m while threatening to leak the images.
The victim managed to pay N300, 000, which secured her release.
However, she was warned that if she didn’t pay the balance, her pictures would be released.
In a separate incident, the Lagos State Police Command rescued 27 foreigners who were allegedly kidnapped and confined in an apartment in the Isheri Oshun area.
The victims, comprising 18 males and nine females from Ghana and the Republic of Benin, were lured into the country with false promises of job opportunities.
Preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine whether Lagos was their final destination or if they were being trafficked to another country.
